So one late september sunny afternoon , I made them and it has been sitting in a dark place till now. It looks and smell fabulous. I still have not used them.
I don't remember from were I got the recipe, i do remember that it was written after two months you can add 2 tbsp of dark rum so that it gives a darker colour to the essence, which I didn't do.
So thankyou Bee for giving me this wonderful idea for making homemade vanilla essence.
Ingridients:
350 ml vodka
3 vanilla beans (edited a year later, when i made them again i added 2 more vanilla beans plus I split the vanilla beans when i add to the bottle)
glass jar
Split the vanilla beans in half.
Put vanilla beans in a bottle with a tight fitting lid .Pour the vodka to it.
Give the bottle a good shake every once in a while. Store in a dark, cool place for 2 months or longer.
You can keep topping off with vodka once in a while as you use it, just remember to give it a good shake.

ReplyDeleteI have my vanilla extract on since about three years now. However I use artisanal Rum as alcohol (I like the caramel taste it imparts at the same time)
